Word Processing Basics

Create readable documents with clear headings, consistent formatting and a final content check.

60–90 minutes3 short lessonsSelf-paced · English

What you’ll be able to do

  • Structure a simple document
  • Use consistent formatting and headings
  • Save, check and share the correct file

Your course, step by step

  1. Start with structure and save clearly
  2. Format for readability
  3. Check, export and share the right version

How completion works

Pass the practice question in every lesson first, then pass four assessment sets in order. Each set has 10 distinct questions and requires at least 80% (8 out of 10). All four must be passed; a high score in one cannot compensate for another. It is open-book and must be your own work. This automated assessment checks course understanding; it does not independently verify identity or workplace competence.

Each set attempt has its own 15-minute window. Starting an attempt counts even if you abandon it. Wait 15 minutes from the start before a retake; after every third attempt of the same set wait 24 hours. Passed sets stay saved. A live attempt can be resumed. Retakes and learning remain free.

About this course

A useful document combines accurate content with a structure the reader can follow. This course introduces basic document organisation, readable formatting and checks before sharing. You will consider headings, paragraphs and consistent presentation as practical aids to understanding, rather than treating decoration as a substitute for a clear message.

The activities use fictional examples so you can practise without uploading real personal records. Software menus vary, so focus on the purpose of the action as well as where a particular tool places it. A final check should include content, names, dates and the current version, not only spelling. The course is introductory and does not claim mastery of every word-processing application or replace an organisation’s document requirements.

Who this course is for

Beginners creating everyday documents for learning, work or community activities.

A practical example

Prepare a fictional one-page session notice. Give it a descriptive heading, a short purpose statement, confirmed arrangements and an obvious contact route. Use a consistent heading style instead of manually making unrelated lines look similar.

Before sharing, check whether a changed date appears in more than one place and whether the file is the current version. Read it on a small screen or in a simple view. If the reader cannot locate the main action quickly, improve the structure before adding more decorative elements.

Try your own fictional version, then enrol to work through the lessons, practice and assessments. Use this unmarked example to explore the skill before working through the course activities.
