TEACH SOMETHING USEFUL
Instructor guidelines
Version 2026-11-01-v1. These terms supplement our platform terms. You must be 18 or older, have a verified email, provide an accurate public instructor name and explain your teaching background. Do not claim credentials you do not hold.
Original, useful content
Write your own lessons or obtain permission for everything you include. Do not copy another course, branding, learner information or copyrighted question bank. You retain ownership and grant Bright Step Learning permission to host, display and deliver the submitted content while the course is offered. Contact support to request removal; existing learners and records may need continued access under an agreed transition.
State 2–8 measurable outcomes, a realistic duration and a plain-language summary. Foundational courses require at least three lessons; R99/R149 courses require at least five. Each lesson needs at least 100 useful words, a practical activity and one practice question with three or four choices, the correct answer and an explanation. Avoid filler: minimum length alone does not establish quality.
Assessment and accessibility
Supply exactly 40 distinct final questions, organised as four sets of ten. Each must have three or four plausible choices, one correct answer and an explanation. Use realistic application scenarios. Learners pass each set at 80%, with 15 minutes per set. Answers stay private. Use clear text suitable for mobile reading and optional English narration. Do not include personal learner records, unsafe instructions or discriminatory content.
Prices and status
All learning, practice and assessments remain free. Optional certificates: Foundational R49; Administrative & Office Skills R99; Digital Marketing & Creative Skills R99; Freelancing & Modern Work Skills R99; Basic Tech & Web Skills R149. The original three free-certificate courses remain free. Higher prices do not change qualification status. Use Certificate of Completion only: it is not an NQF qualification. Do not claim accreditation, NQF credits/levels, professional registration, guaranteed employment or government endorsement.
Review and publication
Save drafts privately, then confirm originality and submit. An administrator checks scope, accuracy, quality, rights and pricing, and may approve, reject or request changes with feedback. Submission is not a promise of publication. Submitted and approved drafts are locked; returned drafts can be edited and resubmitted. Changes to an approved course require support/admin review; instructors cannot silently replace live content. Admin may suspend a course for substantiated concerns.
Revenue and payouts
The instructor share is 60% of the gross certificate price actually paid for the approved instructor course; the platform share is 40%. The platform bears payment processing fees from its share. For example, an R99 certificate allocates R59.40 to the instructor and R39.60 to the platform before platform expenses. Refunds reverse the corresponding instructor earnings; disputes and chargebacks require support review. There is no revenue from free learning. R60 confirmation-letter sales do not form part of this instructor split.
The dashboard tracks earned and reversed amounts; it does not automatically transfer money and does not prove payment to you. Payout method, schedule, minimum amount, any withholding and tax documentation must be agreed separately with support before you rely on receiving funds. No payout date or guaranteed income is promised by submitting a course. Earnings entries are limited to up to 200 displayed entries; contact support for reconciliation.
Privacy and support
Your instructor name appears publicly on approved courses. Your teaching background and draft answers are available to authorised reviewers; learners do not receive assessment answers or your private account email. Learner identities are not included in your earnings ledger. See our privacy notice, refund policy and contact page for requests and disputes.
