5–6 hours including activities and assessments5 short lessonsSelf-paced · English

What you’ll be able to do

  • Build a clear page outline using appropriate HTML elements.
  • Create understandable links and accessible basic page controls.
  • Apply readable styles and reusable selectors without changing content meaning.
  • Use flexible layout and test at realistic viewport sizes.
  • Check files, navigation and accessibility before making a site public.

Your course, step by step

  1. Plan pages and structure HTML
  2. Add links, images and labelled forms
  3. Style with basic CSS
  4. Make the layout work on small screens
  5. Test and publish a small site

How completion works

Pass the practice question in every lesson first, then pass four assessment sets in order. Each set has 10 distinct questions and requires at least 80% (8 out of 10). All four must be passed; a high score in one cannot compensate for another. It is open-book and must be your own work. This automated assessment checks course understanding; it does not independently verify identity or workplace competence.

Each set attempt has its own 15-minute window. Starting an attempt counts even if you abandon it. Wait 15 minutes from the start before a retake; after every third attempt of the same set wait 24 hours. Passed sets stay saved. A live attempt can be resumed. Retakes and learning remain free.

About this course

A first website is easier to understand when its content and structure are clear before decoration is added. This introductory course explores basic HTML and CSS concepts through a small fictional project. You will practise organising a page, making the main information readable and checking whether links and layout support the visitor’s task.

Use original text or material you have permission to use. A page that looks correct on one screen still needs checks in other relevant conditions. Do not include passwords, payment secrets or private records in public files. This short course is a starting point for web learning, not a promise of developer employment, production security expertise or professional accreditation. Further practice and testing are needed for real services.

Who this course is for

Beginners exploring how a simple web page is structured and presented.

A practical example

Plan a fictional community-session page with a descriptive heading, a short introduction, confirmed example arrangements and a clear contact route. Use headings to express the structure rather than choosing them only for their appearance.

After adding simple styling, check whether text is readable on a narrow screen and whether a link reaches the intended destination. Replace placeholder information before any real publication. Explain one layout choice and one limitation of the project, such as a contact form that is only a visual practice example rather than a working submission service.

Try your own fictional version, then enrol to work through the lessons, practice and assessments. Use this unmarked example to explore the skill before working through the course activities.
